In 1992 Zippo introduced the 60th Anniversary Commemorative
Lighter in a collectible tin. Customer and collector response was so great that the tradition
has continued with a new collectible lighter each year. Available for only a limited time,
the early sets have already become highly-prized editions for collectors.
1992 - 60TH ANNIVERSARY LIGHTER
Zippo introduced this Limited Edition Midnight Chrome lighter with pewter 60th Anniversary emblem.
Each lighter was displayed on a plush velour platform in a decorated tin.
1993 - THE VARGA LOOK
The Varga Girl, "Windy", was introduced in 1937 in Zippo's first national ad. The 1993
Collectible lighter featured Windy cast in pewter and attached to the lighter as a
two-surface emblem. She was also pictured on the lid of the collectible tin.
1994 - D-DAY COMMEMORATIVE LIGHTER
Zippo saluted the 50th anniversary of D-Day with its 1994 commemorative lighter.
Its black crackle surface replicated the famous World War II finish, and the antique
brass emblem was patterned after the sleeve patch worn by Allied troops. General
Dwight D. Eisenhower's inspirational June 6, 1944 message to the troops was reprinted
inside the lid of the round collectible tin.
1995 - MYSTERIES OF THE FOREST
The 1995 Limited Edition Collectibles marked several firsts for Zippo. For the first time
the images on the lighters in a set combined to present a larger picture. It was the first
Limited Edition to use Zippo's exciting new Technigraphic
decorating process. And for the first time the single lighter, Jaguar and Cub at Turtle Falls,
shared a graphic connection with the four lighter Mysteries of the Forest set.
1996 - ZIPPO SALUTES PINUP GIRLS
As American as a Betty Grable movie, pinup girls nodded back to the beautiful young woman who
introduced the Zippo windproof lighter to the world in Zippo's
first national advertisement. Zippo Salutes Pinup Girls paid tribute to "Windy" and the
"windproof beauties" that followed her. Zippo's Pinup of the Year was Joan, the 1996
Collectible. The Four Seasons four lighter companion set introduced Holly, April,
Sommer and Ida Redd, a collectible beauty for each season of the year.
1997 - 65TH ANNIVERSARY LIGHTER
The 65th Anniversary Commemorative Zippo lighter was a high polish chrome model bearing
a 2-surface antique pewter emblem in a nostalgic art deco style, recalling the era of Zippo's founding.
An exclusive case stamp was created specifically for this Collectible. The commemorative tin
presented a collage of Zippo advertising art and logos from its archives.
1998 - THE ZIPPO CAR
Armed with massive twin lighters towering above its modest roof line, the distinctive
Zippo Car appeared in nearly every major parade in the country in 1948 and 1949,
helping to make Zippo a household name, and the Zippo lighter a household item.
1998's Collectible of the Year featured a detailed pewter rendering of the Zippo Car and
another of the Zippo Pennsylvania license plate mounted on a brushed chome lighter and
packaged with a Zippo Pennsylvania license plate cast pewter key ring. The commemorative
tin visually chronicled the colorful history of the famed Zippo Car.
1999 - MILLENNIUM EDITION
The first computer-engraved Collectible of the Year ever, this new Zippo for a new age also
marked the debut of a TVD Titanium coating - the same technology used on the Space
Shuttle's heat shield. The message - "One World - One Future" - reflects Zippo's belief that
the challenges of the future are best faced together. A unique bottom stamp including the
TVD logo plus a severely restricted production ceiling of just 100,000 pieces world-wide
made this a highly desirable piece for collectors. The 1999 Millennium Edition Zippo was a
lighter designed to last a lifetime...and look great doing it.
2000 - KEEPER OF THE FLAME
This Collectible Of The Year featured a first of its kind earth-toned, embossed, genuine leather
medallion encased in an antique brass frame on a classic brushed chrome lighter. A special bottom
stamp authenticated this lighter as a millennium edition. The primitive style graphic, symbolizing
respect, power and control of man's most essential element, was replicated on a handsome,
embossed, keepsake tin.
2001 - HOLLYWOOD'S LEADING LIGHT
One of the most coveted and recognized symbols in Hollywood is the hallmark of Zippo's 10th
limited edition Collectible of the Year. Leading the 2001 Collection's Hollywood-themed lighters,
it marks the debut of a new Gold Dust finish. The pink terazzo star that graces the Hollywood
Walk of Fame in tribute to the world's finest performers is replicated in the cloisonné emblem
and custom tin packaging. A hinged-lid protective box doubles as a self-display.
2002 - FRIENDS FOR A LIFETIME
To commemorate their 70th Anniversary, Zippo introduced their eleventh and final annual limited edition Collectible of the Year.
Limited to only 70,000 pieces worldwide, it features a distrinctive brushed brass 1941 replica, with
full-faced brass emblem and an exclusive bottom stamp. The colorful tin pictures Zippo collectors and
fans who attended National Zippo Day and the Zippo/Case Swap Meet. A special volume of personal stories from
Zippo owners is included with this commemorative set only.
